ACAP Partners with Cinderella Project of Maine to Provide Free Prom Dresses

Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) has partnered with the Cinderella Project of Maine and Waldo County Action Program to help make dreams come true by providing free new and gently used prom and formal dresses to all Maine students.

The project, which began in 2006 as a grassroots effort to provide free prom dresses to high school seniors in Waldo County, has grown in the last two decades to distribute hundreds of dresses each year during prom season to students statewide.

ACAP is busy planning the local Cinderella Project event scheduled for March 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th at the former Key Bank Building at 480 Main Street in Presque Isle.  The event will be held on the third floor and is open to any Aroostook County high school, middle school or college student, regardless of income.  Hundreds of dresses will be available in all sizes and styles, with Fairy Godmothers present to help with dress selection.  This year, ACAP is fortunate to have the space available to allow dress selection through the entire prom season.

“We would like to remove the barrier of the cost for our local students, taking the burden off families and allowing all to enjoy the experience of prom,” says Sherry Locke, ACAP’s Director of Advancement.  “Fairy Godmother volunteers will be onsite to help students chose a beautiful gown for their upcoming proms or  special occasion.”
