As families try to make ends meet during the pandemic, more than 100 organizations across the state are working together to make sure that children in Maine won’t have to worry about having access to oral health supplies.

The Wieden Hall Gym at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will serve as a temporary wellness shelter for individuals currently experiencing homelessness in Aroostook County thanks to a unique collaboration between Aroostook County Action Program, UMPI, Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency, City of Presque Isle, Maine State Housing Authority, and Homeless Services of Aroostook.

A month-long local challenge to collect soup as part of the national Souper Bowl of Caring campaign came to an end last week with members of the Aroostook Chapter of Maine Credit Unions collecting more than $13,000 in soup and cash donations. The donations will be distributed to food cupboards and pantries across Aroostook County.  

This year marked ACAP’s fourth year of participating in the St. Apollonia Dental Clinic Festival of Trees in an effort to both raise awareness of food insecurity in Aroostook County, and to collect cereal boxes to distribute to children who attend their early care and education centers, as well as stock Community Cupboards across Aroostook County. 

The 3rd Annual Telethon to assist Aroostook County citizens experiencing heating and housing hardships will take place November 14th.
