Helping Hands for Warm and Safe Homes Telethon

November 8, 2019

ACAP is very fortunate to have partnered with WAGM and United Way of Aroostook again this year to raise funds to help heat homes as well as educate the community about the programs that ACAP offers. Last year the one day event raised $58,000, money that has help keep over 450 friends and neighbors warm over the last year. Without these precious donor dollars ACAP would not have been able to meet the needs, leaving clients cold.

This year we have set a goal of $60,000 and those funds will be allocated to not only keeping our friends and neighbors warm, but also to assist clients with securing a safe home or avoiding becoming homeless. This expanded effort is a direct result of the community conversations we have held about the needs in our community and truly wanting to provide a safety net to individuals and families in need.

In addition to the phone lines being open at WAGM to receive donations, we will also have the phone lines open here at ACAP to schedule appointments for clients or to answer any questions callers may have. Those lines will be open from 8 am - 8 pm. ACAP will have several of its board members in the office that day to offer a helping hand.

As part of the planning for this event, WAGM has created a website with additional information. That information can be found at  In addition to the information provided, there are two links on the page:  one to donate and one to see if you qualify for Home Energy Assistance Program. When a person clicks on the second link he or she goes to a Survey Monkey that walks him or her through the qualifications for our HEAP Program, including the documents that are needed for an appointment and providing our contact number. A story aired on WAGM this morning that talked about the expanded guidelines this year and the tool that is available for viewers to see if they qualify.  Both links are already active for people to use.

For your convenience, the links to the stories that aired this morning and last night are below:
